Spring break is over, prom season is here, and graduation is just around the corner for Collin County’s older students. That means it’s time to start planning summer schedules and looking for fun activities and free events in McKinney for our youngest community members. District 121, the premier North Texas event and entertainment space, has numerous fun restaurants and free events to choose from to keep kids entertained and excited this summer.
Why District 121 Is Great for Entertaining Kids
District 121 was built with the whole community and family in mind. From the youngest kids to college students, single adults and married people, there’s something for everyone to discover. The Commons, the central courtyard the space is built around, is a large open green and hardscaped space featuring a state-of-the-art stage, sculptures and art from local artists, lawn games and seating.
This space calls to energetic young feet to run through the plush grass, play games, or engage with the flowers to learn more about them. This area is welcoming to all ages, and is the center of much of our lively action during the summer months and year-round.
Summer Events Perfect for Children at District 121
Now that you know a bit about the physical layout and outdoor features, let’s look at why District 121 is a McKinney destination the whole family will love! Our summer events, which again are a great free way to entertain the kids this summer, include the following.
Free Yoga With Life Time Fitness Instructors
Continuing the fun and flow from spring, we’re hosting free yoga classes in the courtyard throughout May & June, at 8 AM Thursdays and 10 AM Saturdays. Life Time Fitness instructors lead these flexibility sessions, which are great for both parents and children. If the kids prefer, there’s plenty of nearby space to play in full view of their parents. Plus, during these yoga classes, Broken Yolk Cafe is offering a $5 coupon to class attendees. This is a wonderful way to wrap up the morning!
Art & Shopping Events for the Whole Family
Celebrate local artists and the artistic spirit at Art in the Park and our Music & Market events. It’s a great time to introduce children to the wonder of art through the works of various artists and craftsmen from North Texas. You can show multiple styles of art and media and let the kids hear from the artists themselves. These events are a learning experience, market and free concert all in one.
Open-Space Outdoor Free Music Concerts
Each month our state-of-the-art outdoor stage is home to local, regional and touring artists, with bands from many genres. You can always check the events calendar each month to find out who’s gracing our stage, and see if you and the kids will enjoy the music. A few musicians coming this summer include saxophonist Myron Oliver, Red Dirt Texas Country artist Keaton Adams, and Blues-Rock outfit and local favorites, Texas Flood.
