Listening to live music outdoors is one of the best parts of the warm-weather months, and it’s even better when those shows are free. The layout of District 121 centers on The Commons, a beautifully landscaped area surrounded by restaurants and attractions. The Commons features a state-of-the-art stage sponsored by Credit Union of Texas—they keep the free shows going to light up our city’s nights.
The Commons was set up from the start with concerts and performances in mind. When you want to plan the perfect date night or outing in McKinney this summer, here’s a few ways you can do that!
Plan for Open Seating
Concerts on The Commons are in a grassy area. The terrain is designed for everyone to get a spectacular view and hear the music well. The lawn has a limited amount of permanent seating, so feel free to bring a blanket or your outdoor-ready chairs to make sure you have a great seat as well.
Keep the Kids Happy
If you’re planning a family outing, check the artist’s musical style ahead of time. District 121 typically hosts family-friendly musicians, but you’ll want to make sure you agree! While the kiddos will enjoy the show, bring something to keep them entertained until showtime. It’s also a good idea to bring a cooler with water and snacks for your little ones to keep them hydrated and happy. For most events there are drinks available for purchase, and of course, the many surrounding restaurants to choose from as well.
Make It a Weekend Adventure
